Indiana Jones and Plenty of H2O

It's a bit too easy to rant about the errors/inaccuracies abounding in Indy 4 ("Mayan" spoken in Peru? Central American pyramids built in the Amazon? Mexican Mariachis playing in the streets of Cuzco? Crazy blowdart touting natives wearing monkey outfits?). Raiders is still the best Indy, by far.

Aside from popularizing the "extraterrestrial origin of Mesoamerican culture" theory, it'll also introduce Iguazu Falls to many. Unlike the monkeys with 1950's greaser haircuts, these aren't computer-generated fictions and they are much more impressive in person. Iguazu (in GuaranĂ it's "yguazu"--the "y" is water, "guazu" is big)...

Have you come across any S. American reviews of the movie that talk about the crazy melding/fabrication of place/language/culture? I was looking at a Colombian portal's review and it didn't mention the setting at all -- just which stars played what roles.

What's inauthentic about Mexican mariachis in Peru? Everybody loves mariachis. They're everywhere, especially in Latin America.

I just saw the movie and I agree with the original post completely, especially about the mariachi's in Peru. They had a perfect opportunity to put some magical background music from the Andes in, but instead they chose to offend every Peruvian who goes to see the movie. Ms. Rubio asks what's inauthentic and I say that yes, people love mariachi in America del Sur, but only at a party after everyone's drunk. Peru has its own music. It kinda ruined the movie for me.
